I am using the opensource OpenOffice.org Calc as my spreadsheet editor. Many times I am having problem copy from Calc and paste elsewhere. I copied using keyboard shortcut [Control+Insert] and paste using [Shift+Insert].
The problem is the copied content will not paste immediately. I have to keep pasting many times (up to 8 times) in order for the content to be paste successfully.
Further investigating, I tried installed a third party clipboard program where it can store 10 copied data in Clipboard compared to the default 1 data in clipboard.
Here are the outcomes from multiple clipboard:
CopiedData [multiformat]
CopiedData [text only]
Seems that data copied from OpenOffice contains more than plain text, thus having problem pasting.
Upon searching on the Internet for a possible solution, I found many are having the same problem.
Here are my finding (suggested solution and the outcomes):
- Start Windows in safe mode and reset the user profile.
– not working
- The spreadsheet is protected.
– Nope, tried both password protected and normal non-protected, same problem.
- Conflict with Skype.
– Nope, no Skype installed.
- Tool -> Cell Contents set to Autocalculate.
– Tried both checked and unchecked, same problem persists.
- Tools- Options -OpenOffice.org Calc – View -Display -Formulas
– checked and nope same problem.
- A Windows 7 and Vista problem with the clipboard.
– well, this seems to be the real culprit. Here is how it works:
- Copy a data from OpenOffice Calc and immediately paste into a notepad. Keep pressing [Shift+Insert] and I counted 8 times before data is actually pasted.
- Copy data from OpenOffice Calc and waited around 10 seconds before pasting. Voila! First paste successful.
So, my conclusion is the Clipboard program in Windows 7 (64bit in my case) is having issue with OpenOffice Calc (possibly Write too). One have to wait some moments before the copied data is actually go in the clipboard and ready to be pasted.
