By default Windows 7 does not provide thumbnail support for FLV files. I have downloaded many FLV and MP4 files and need to separate them into folders according to type of contents.
For MP4 files it is simpler as Windows Explorer can provide preview of thumbnails. However for FLV files Window does not provide thumbnail previews.
Apparently by default Windows 7 does not have the necessary codec to decode FLV files, so we will have to find some FLV codec.
I tried to download a codec pack from ICARUS which is smaller size (6MB) compared to K-Lite codec pack (17MB). According to Icarus description: “Icaros can provide Windows Explorer thumbnails, for essentially any video media format supported by FFmpeg,
this includes popular filetypes such as: Mkv, Flv, Avi, Mp4, Mov, Rmvb, M2ts, Ogm etc.”.
The codec pack is an EXE installer. After download and install the EXE file, I can immediately see thumbnail previews of FLV files, without even have to restart my Windows 7 64bit notebook.
