Description

There is no Windows Vista driver available for Toshiba Satellite PRO 6100 wireless LAN card. You will only see the Windows XP and Windows 2000 drivers available for download.

However, we know that once we identify the exact make and chipset model name/model number, we can download the generic drivers and try to install to see if it works.

In the case of Toshiba Satellite PRO 6100, we can identify the WIFI LAN chipset by downloading the Windows XP driver and look through the INF file to see the model number. That is exactly what I did.

OK, here is the result, seem that the chipset is [Atheros 802.11a/b/g WiFi driver with Cisco/WPA support for Windows XP/2000] and the model is AR5001X or AR5001X+.

So now we have the correct brand/make and model number for WIFI LAN used in Toshiba Satellite PRO 6100, we will try to look for the generic driver which should work in Windows Vista.

After much searching, I have found a promising driver, [WLAN_ATHEROS_V5.0.0.107.exe]. After extracted the zipped driver file, you will find the driver information file under the /driver/ folder.

According to the INF file (net5211.inf) this driver supported Windows 2000, XP and greater. Which mean Windows Vista, I hope. As I do not have the specific WIFI LAN card to test on, you will have to download and try out yourself. Please let us know if it works.
