Description

There are two versions of Netgear FA311 network cards:

  1. Version 1: FA311 (aka FA311v1)

This version is identified by the word [FA311] on the bottom label, with no v2 following it. Version 1 does not support Linux.

  2. Version 2:

First available in April 2006, this version is identified by the wording [FA311 v2] on the bottom label. This version has a different chipset and supports Linux.

Chances are if you have bought a new Netgear FA311 card after April 2006, your version is most probably version 2.

It is important to make sure which version your FA311 is because the firmware or driver is not interchangeable between versions. Windows will give an error if attempting to install the incorrect one.

During Vista installation, Windows Vista will install Realtek RTL8139/810x NDIS 5.1 Driver. This Realtek RTL8139/810X chipset is used in the following network cards, so if you have one of these cards, you may want to try install this driver:

  1. NETGEAR FA311v2 PCI Adapter
  2. D-Link DFE-690TXD CardBus Card
  3. D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 Adapter
  4. D-Link DFE-530TX+ PCI Adapter
  5. D-Link DFE-528TX PCI Adapter
  6. (MOBILE ASSIST)Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
