Matshita is an abbreviated name for Matsushita, the company that owned Panasonic. Here is how they come out with [Matshita] :-
A certain part of the CD/DVD drives firmware has to identify itself to the BIOS and OS with a string that is limited to 8 characters.So when Matsushita had to come up with an 8-character name, they abbreviated Matsushita to Matshita.
So you now know when you got an error message or bios or WinXP reported that you have a Matshita CD/DVD drive, you know it is from Panasonic.

From the installation it says ‘UDF Reader for Win2000’ and consequently prompts that it can’t install because of wrong OS.
My matshita UJ 840 D drive is not recognized at all. Sony VAIO.

this concerns the matshita uj870b writer! Why is there no firmware update for this very bad product?
I have the same problem..and I don’t find solutions.. HELPPPPPP
I can only advise:keep away from panasonic products,you will never get help! Best is to bye a new writer from another brand (no noname or specialy made hardware) Good luck!
