Description

There are many models of Acer Aspire One netbooks. Each and everyone of them might be using a different models of WIFI chipsets and drivers. There fore you will need to know:

  1. The model number of your Acer Aspire One netbook.

Usually you can find the model number underneath the netbook. Flip over you Aspire One and look for a sticker similar to below:

Example above is for Acer Aspire One model ZG5.

If your Aspire One netbook missing the sticker for whatsoever reason, you will have to refer to the original documentation that come with your netbook. For example specsheet and user manual.

  2. The make of your WIFI chipset.

There are mainly three makers of Wifi chipset used in Aspire One: Atheros, Intel and Broadcom. To download the correct driver for your Acer Aspire One, you will need to know who manufactured the Wifi chipset. To do that, you will have to either:

    1. Open up the casing cover behind Asipre One netbook and look for the Wifi chipset. You will see the maker name, model number and other useful information.

    2. Alternatively you can refer to specsheet or user manual or other documentations that come with your Aspire One. However I found that the user manual is a generic one which do not contain specific information such as makes of Wifi chipset. The description will be a generic one, such as "Acer InviLink™ Nplify™ 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi CERTIFIED"
Once you find out the model number and make of Wifi chipset for your Acer Aspire One netbook, you can start to go and download the driver from Acer website.
  1. Go here.
  2. Select Netbook -> Aspire One -> select Model (here you will need to select your model)
  3. You will be prompt with a picture of selected model. Click on it and you will go to the model specific [Download and Support Documents - model name/number]
  4. Select [Drivers] and look for [Wireless LAN], then select the one matching the make of the WIFI chipset.
  5. Download and install the Wifi driver. Your Wifi chipset will be working after that and you will be able to connect to Wifi networks and the Internet.
