A lot of HP notebook users are facing problem with their Conexant HD Smart Audio 221 sound chip while installing the driver in Windows XP. Their notebooks were originally targeted to be installed with Windows Vista and thus do not have the Windows XP supplied together with the notebooks.
Some users claimed to manage to solve the driver problem with Windows XP SP3. Here are some solutions posted, together with driver download URL:
- Make sure your Windows XP is patched with the latest service pack, as of time of writing is SP3. You can download and update here.
- Your system must have installed the latest Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio.
Latest version is sp43647.exe version 1.00.32 dated 2009-07-14. You can download it here.
Please be aware that your build in microphone might not work even though you have installed all the necessary drivers. I have tried to look for the solution on HP website but seems that no solution is available yet. You will also see the user interface installed together with the Conexant HD Audio Smart Audio 221 driver.
Alternatively, you can try the Free Driver Scanner.
